German, Mannerist Painter. Born in Cologne, died in Prague. His name comes from the birth place of his father, Aachen in Germany. He settled in Prague where he worked as a court painter to the emperors Rudolf II & Matthias. His paintings, featuring elegant, elongated figures, were the leading examples of sophisticated Mannerist art that were in vogue at the courts of Northern Europe.
